Devil's Trumpet is an annual herb, 0.5-1.5 m tall, becoming hairless. Stems are often dark violet. Leaf-stalks are 2-6 cm; leaf blade ovate or broadly ovate, 5-20 x 4-l5 cm, membranous, becoming hairless, base flat or wedge-shaped, asymmetrical, margin irregularly sinuate-toothed, lobed, or entire, tip tapering; veins 4-6 pairs. Flowers are erect, white, yellowish, or pale purple, funnel-shaped, sometimes doubled or tripled, 14-20 cm; limb 6-10 cm in diameter; lobes elongate. Flower-stalks are about 1 cm. Sepal-cup is tubular, 4-9 cm. Anthers are 1-1.2 cm. Capsules are deflexed, nearly spherical, about 3 cm in diameter, warty, irregularly 4-valved, subtended by remnants of persistent sepal-cup. Devil's Trumpet is from Mexico, naturalized in India. Flowering: March-December.
Medicinal uses: Traditionally, Devil's Trumpet is used in many diseases, including neurological and heart diseases; fever; catarrh; pain; diarrhea; skin diseases; chronic bronchitis; asthma; digestive disorders; and so on.
